Infants with congenital cataracts can have microspherophakia, which imposes additional surgical challenges, including intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in such a small capsular bag. In these eyes, we routinely use a novel technique that was invented by one the authors. This technique consists of partial amputation of both haptics of a 3-piece IOL, enabling its in-the-bag implantation.
