Due to the technically challenging graft harvesting process of Bowman layer transplantation (Van Dijk K, et. al, JAMA Ophthalmol. 2014;132:495–501), this technique was not widely adopted. Surgeon ready stromal grafts can facilitate the adoption of a similar technique that can be used to help a carefully selected subset of patients with severe keratoconus without corneal stromal scarring.
